To get to Gold's Hole, turn at Riggins onto the Main Salmon River Road and drive about 24 miles to a small turnout on the left just upstream of the Wind River footbridge (there is a toilet here, cherry trees, and nice hiking across the bridge into the Gospel Hump Wilderness area). There really isn't any good camping at Gold's Hole itself, unless you like sleeping on the dirt road, which many people seem to like.
The eddy access to the wave/hole is excellent, it's on the river right. But getting back into the eddy can be a sisyphean effort. At high flows it's very difficult and you'll frequently end up hiking back up the rocky bank on river left. At lower flows (~8000 and below) it's easier, and even if you do miss it you can climb back up the rocks on river right to the eddy, which will usually involve getting out of your boat.
I've found that flows of ~7500-8500 to be best because the crowds are small and the wave/hole is still fun. Above 9000 the dudes show up and you have more fun watching all the big wave ariels than fighting the crowds and not catching the eddy. As the flow drops the wave breaks more and more until below ~7000 it forms a hole that gets increasingly stickier as the flow drops.
Don't worry if you swim here, you've got plenty of recovery time. I've even seen people float down to the wind river launch site.
